Dear friends and family of DeafHope,

DeafHope Board of Directors is proud to celebrate another great 2007 event! Our executive director, Julie Rems-Smario, was nominated as one of 18 “CNN Heroes” finalists.

There were six categories of heroes with three finalists per category. Julie was one of the three finalists for the Community Crusaders category. 7000 nominations were made from 93 countries, and only 18 were selected. This put DeafHope on the global map!

Special Announcement from the DeafHope Board of Directors
1/17/08

Dear Community,

It is with great pleasure that we announce Julie Rems-Smario is now the full-salaried Executive Director for DeafHope.  Julie was one of the eight founders of DeafHope in 2003.  DeafHope is the product of many volunteer hours by more than a dozen people.  We have leveraged many in-kind services to provide much-needed services for Deaf survivors of domestic and sexual violence.  Julie has lead this organization in the right direction with the guidance of our strategic plans based on our vision for DeafHope and the needs of Deaf survivors.

Are You Game?
3/14/09

DeafHope’s FIRST Casino Night was a night full of fun and games...Casino Games.  It was a small crowd but all who attended had a lot of fun and it was for a good cause. All proceeds will go to DeafHope services.  Those who attended had the choice to play Blackjack, Poker, or Craps.  Trina Licht and her husband Fred graciously offered their home in Mountain View.

A door fee of $50 dollars allowed you to enjoy appetizers, and non-alcoholic drinks, and $150 worth of chips.  At the end of the evening, everyone cashed out their chips for Raffle tickets.  The raffle tickets were good for raffle drawings for prizes. Plans are already being discussed for NEXT year..hopefully during St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

DeafHope is proud to announce their first annual fundraiser “Bark at DV” (Domestic Violence), October 31, 2009 at the San Leandro Marina Park Heron Picnic Tables from 1:00 to 4:30 pm.  Bark at DV includes a walk-a-thon, best Halloween costume (both dog and person), best look-alike dog with person and a social playpen for dogs.

Every year thousands of women and their children become survivors of domestic and sexual violence, in which some seek help from local organizations; however, for the Deaf
community, particularly Deaf women and their children, accessible services remain a challenge. Many, along with their pets, return to a home of violence.

Minimum pledge for Bark at DV Walk-a-thon is $20.

Click here, to download the Pledge form.

Bring your pledge form and donations with you Saturday October 31, 2009.  DeafHope invites you and your dog to join us in this cause!  All proceeds will go to DeafHope’s advocacy programs.
